Background
This product is a web based application for testing the features of mobile phones. This project was an initiative from Samsung ODC located in Bengaluru. This project involved creation of SDMS, a web application which helps the testers who test the features of Samsung mobile phones. The application allows the users to create and manage the test sessions, their related artefacts (like test suite, test cases etc.) and also analyze the results of testing through the reports created by the system.
Scope of work
The work involved re-defining the UX for the application. I worked as an individual contributor.
Initially, discussions were held with all the stakeholders involved to understand the intent behind redesign. The latter work involved doing a heuristic evaluation of the existing application, understanding users and domain, documenting that as personas and scenarios, defining task flows, wireframes and visual design.

What went well
The information architecture part, especially the Task flows came up very well. They were exhaustive and covered all the possible scenarios defined by the SODC team. The wireframes created for the “Add Test case” task flow are quite effective and efficient; making the UI easy to use.

What didn't went well
The visual design took quiet longer than expected. There are two main reasons for this:
I’m not a full time graphic designer, so it took little longer time for me to create visual mock-ups
The client didn’t clearly state the requirements, there were no brand guidelines given and this led to a little confusion, as to what color scheme needs to be used.
The client didn’t probably know what do brand guidelines mean or didn’t have access to them. It might also be that they didn’t exactly know what kind of look they want.
This process could have been improved, had the client given some more time in the initial phase. I would have come up with some mood boards to help the client identify the exact genre and the color scheme they want. This would have avoided the slight delay in the work.
Achievements
The achievements were more personal, in terms of visual design skills. The project provided a good opportunity for me to refine my visual design skills.
